Nutrition: your practical plan
Knowing that nutrition is paramount for recovery is one thing. It’s another thing knowing what exactly to do about it.
If you’re lucky to have a family member that is consistently and reliably cooking for you, make sure that meals contain high protein, probiotic, complex carbs.
An alternative is to consider a meal delivery system tailored for postpartum.
Starting at about 400$/week, this is not a cheap option, however it certainly is a great investment in your recovery in terms of convenience, metal load and optimal formulations. Even for just the first week, it will make a difference.
Depending on where you live, there are several options:
Chyco, eastern wisdom based. High end pricing and additional support resources if you’re into that.
Restorative roots, customizable program, practical, organic
WelcomeHome more traditional food, a little repetitive
A practical option to keep in your pantry is Dyvia’s Kitchari. These are one pot meal that can very easily be cooked (Ayurvedic tradition).
Bone Broth should be your default drink of choice. This one is very practical.
DYO Preparation
The week prior to the due date, you can spend a bit of time to prepare snacks and freeze them. Below a couple of easy options that require virtually no skills and you will be very thankful to have them at hands’ reach through the day.
You’ll need snacks for about 2 weeks (one or two snacks per day):
No bake energy bites
Tahini banana bread
Muffins (savory and sweet)
One word of advice:
You don’t want to restrict yourself in this phase but also try to take a few moments to listen to your body when you’re hungry. Your body will tell you which ingredients you crave for and it is important to listen: for example, if you’re leaning towards dark chocolate, your body may be low in magnesium.
What about the rest of the family?
It’s important not to forget the family dynamic. Are you the one that generally cooks all the meals? Maybe you want to set up your partner with a meal system that is easy and ready to go.
For example, Factor75 or Thistle.
These are healthy meals, ready to eat. It takes away the guilt of taking care of everyone (if that’s your thing)
